HTC Touch Diamond Cell Phone to compete with iPhone

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

HTC announced the Touch Diamond yesterday in London and they’ve managed to pack even more features into a cell phone that many are already calling an iPhone-killer. At a minimum, it’s definitely a competitor.

The Diamond sports a 2.8″ VGA touch-screen running HTC’s own TouchFlo 3D interface and it promises some newer touch and gesture mechanism over the iPhone. A quadband phone, the Diamond is a smartphone with a slew of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, and HSDPA. It also shows off its auto-righting display technology so you can view pages in either landscape or portrait modes. I’m just touching on its many features too.

I know that Chief Gizmateer is looking to replace his current smartphone (a Treo that served him well), and he’s somewhat interested in a 3G iphone, but that’s not out yet. Unfortunately, I’m sorry to report that the Diamond won’t make it Stateside until the 2nd half of this year, which is code for maybe not until Xmas! While we’re not really focused on cell phones (entirely too many to cover), we’ve certainly featured more than 1 HTC model in the past as they produce some nice little gadgets.

How do you define cloud computing

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

So what exactly is cloud computing? We all have an idea what the cloud does and how we use it, but trying to define the larger concept of cloud computing can get tricky. It is a term that has come to mean many different things, from how webmail operates, to online storage tools, to Amazon’s elastic computing service, EC2.

In this video the Joyent hosting crew asked a few well-known people how they defined cloud computing. The interviewees include Tim O’Reilly, Dan Farber, Rafe Needleman, Brian Solis, Stowe Boyd, and a number of other people who any self-respecting geek has heard of.

The Stress Eraser: Real or Fake?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

When it comes to the type of products that are suppose to be stress-free, I have my doubts that they really work. By looking at the description of the StressEraser, my guesses are probably right.

The working method couldn’t be much easier: stick your finger on the StressEraser for 15 minutes per day, for 2 weeks - afterwards you’re expected to feel more calmer, patient, and energetic. In case you feel the stress coming up during any time of the day, just use the Eraser once again.

Believe it or not, this device won a Frost & Sullivan’s 2006 Medical Industry Award.

Priced at 150.

The StressEraser focuses your mind and guides your breathing to synchronize with a calming BreathWav pattern.

Canada is getting the Zune, beginning June 13

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Well it only took about 18 months but the Zune is finally making its way into Canada. Beginning June 13 Canadians will be able to grab the Zune of their choosing. Well, except for a few small details, namely the lineup is not quite as complete as it is here in the US.

There will not be any 30GB model or green models. Do our friendly neighbors to the north have something against green? Anyway, up for grabs will be the Zune 80 in black or red for $249.99, the Zune 8 in black, red or pink for $189.99 and the Zune 4 in black, red or pink for $139.99.

Sotec to launch AMD-powered WinBook WV laptops in Japan

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

If you’re not that much of a techie, and just aim for variety in most of your so-called “gadgets,” you might be enticed in considering Sotec, Japan’s newest wonder, an Athlon 64 X2 powered little lappie called the WinBook WV. You did want a laptop now, didn’t you?

Reading my write-up about its specs would be the modern-day equivalent of watching caveman paintings dry, but if you must really know, it will have a 1.90GHz Athlon 64 X2 TK-57 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 15.4-inch LCD (1280×800 screen resolution) and 2.9 hours of manufacturer-rated battery life. Wi-Fi b/g will be built-in as standard, and it also comes provided with 120GB of storage in a hard disk drive that I’m sure you’ll love to destroy at a later time.

How much for a piece? Only €610 or about $950 USD for you, because you’re a friend. Hurry, before all those bloggers consume all the stocks!

Green-House GH-USB-CUP2

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Cold drinks should remain cold, and hot drinks, well, hot, if they’re to be enjoyed the way it is supposed to be. Green-House aims to help you with that aspect of your favorite beverage thanks to its Green-House GH-USB-CUP2 USB cup cooler and warmer that caters to all seasons, regardless of whether you love drinking chilled or hot drinks. Temperatures can remain as low as 15? or even kept warm at 40?, although I would’ve preferred a larger range to work with. All you need to do is place your cup on your metal plate, plug in the device into any available powered USB port and you’re good to go.
