Fujitsu lets loose U810, T2010 tablet PCs

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Fujitsu wasn’t all that specific about pricing or release details when it announced its new U810 and T2010 tablet PCs earlier this year, but it looks like both have now finally made their way out the door. In case you missed it, the big addition this time around is the inclusion of a built-in HSPA modem (and rather obvious antenna), which will run you an extra $200 on top of the $999 and $1,499 base prices for the U810 and T2010, respectively. Otherwise, you can expect the same 5.6-inch and 12.1-inch displays as before, along with the usual 800MHz Intel A110 processor on the U810 and a decidedly speedier Core 2 Duo 7600 processor on the T2010, among other specs not too different from the previous models.

Disney unveils Wall-E Robot

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Everyone seems to love robotic toys these days - after all, these are the future of childrens’ toys as the current generation require more than just a LEGO brick to keep themselves entertained. The Ultimate Wall-E robot toy boasts 10 motors to provide it with a greater degree of movement and animation. The inclusion of a remote control makes it a snap for children to program the Wall-E’s movements, and Wall-E can be easily directed by making simple patterns on the remote’s touch pad. Other features include voice activation as well as a follow-me mode that follows the sound of a human voice whenever it detects a human entering the room. I wonder if it works with dog barks as well…This MP3-compatible (it has integrated speakers) Ultimate Wall-E toy will debut this fall for $189.99.

Hitachi 1.5 in US Now

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Those of us living in the US who have been drooling over Hitachi’s 1.5″ thin LCD TVs will be able to empty their wallets pretty soon, and they can choose from 32″, 37″ and 42″ displays, depending on their budget. Ever wondered how Hitachi managed to send their LCD TVs to the fat house with such stunning results? Well, they removed the ATSC tuner for starters amongst others. Selected countries in Asia have already been able to purchase the Hitachi 1.5, but at least you can make good use of your stash now.

UFO CD Player

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

The little green men have arrived, and in a stylish CD player to boot. This $12,000 UFO-shaped CD player from China-based Shanling is claiming such an expensive price tag due to the fact that it comes with a quartet of amplification valves, two remote controls, and gold-plated tube legs (I could definitely make do without those for a much cheaper price). Surely with China companies being pretty good in cloning stuff, why can’t somebody come up with a clone of this CD-T300 Pro CD player instead? Try to keep the costs down while you’re at it, ok? After all, who listens to CDs only these days?

Let your imagination run wild with the NeoCube

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

What can you do with a toy built out of 216 tiny high-energy rare-earth magnets? Well, you can make just about any shape you wish. It’s the NeoCube.

NeoCube is being touted as an entertainment device that serves as a ”dual hemisphere brain stimulator”, a “stress reliever” and a “boredom buster” according to the seller. What it is mainly depends on you and your imagination. NeoCube can bend, fold, tear-apart and then come back together again.  Take a look at the video to see the NeoCube in action to see what it can do.

At $39.95 you might want to pick one up to play with at your desk. You could find yourself wasting an afternoon just seeing what you can make with one. Just be sure to keep the little ones away from the NeoCube. Swallowing the magnetic spheres would be very dangerous.

Maker Faire Preview: Attack of the Flaming, 20-Foot Woman

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

One of the attractions of the upcoming Maker Faire is all the displays of terrifying pyrotechnic art. Like this massive, 20-foot-tall sculpture of a woman made out of 10-inch pipe, scrap metal, and lots and lots of fire.

In this Wired.com video, artists Dan Das Mann and Karen Cusolito demo their 6-ton sculpture, Epiphany at their Oakland, California, industrial-arts space.

Gadget Lab will be at Maker Faire all weekend long, posting news, photos and video from the world’s largest gathering of do-it-yourselfers. If you’ve got news or tips about the Faire, send them to Wired.com reporters Jenna Wortham and Alexis Madrigal. And stay tuned to our Maker Faire category page for the latest!
