Kohler Fountainhead VibrAcoustic Bathtub

Monday, April 28th, 2008

The Kohler Fountainhead VibrAcoustic Bathtub adds a whole new dimension to your bathtub, throwing in sound vibration, chromatherapy, and music to enrich your soaking experience. After all, research has proven that sound vibration, music, and chromatherapy works wonders when it comes to relieving one of stress while keeping the mind at ease. The only thing missing is a complimentary rubber duckie to keep me company during my relaxing baths in a Kohler Fountainhead VibrAcoustic Bathtub. There is no word on pricing, but it ought to come with a premium over standard bathtubs.

FC Mobile Portable NES Game Player

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Last week, I covered a story about someone who put an entire Nintendo Entertainment System inside of a Super Mario Brothers cartridge. I would like to take the next logical step on NES emulator reporting, and discuss the FC Mobile, an NES emulator that is completely portable.

For a portable gaming system, the FC Mobile is one thick mobile device. After all, the playstation Portable (PSP) and Nintendo DS are about half the size of the FC Mobile, and they both play games that are way more advanced than anything the NES ever put out. Considering the size of the NES cartridges that the FC Mobile plays, I suppose that it had to be this thick.

The larger size does give it a screen size advantage of 2.4 inches. If a user wants to play their 8-bit games on a bigger screen, he or she has the option of plugging the FC Mobile into the television with an AV cable.

As for the power, the FC Mobile is powered by 3 AA batteries. It comes in red, white, silver, or black for about $30 to $60. It appears that the only place they are available at is Ebay. I have no idea if there are any plans to get the FC Mobile to a broader, non-online auction market.

Codemasters buys recently closed Sega Racing Studios

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Two weeks ago Sega announced that it’s Racing Studio based in Birmingham, England was being closed down. The studio had released the well-received Sega Rally and was working on unannounced projects when the decision was made.

Now there is some good news for the staff who worked at the studio. Codemasters, another UK development house with a pedigree for racing games, has bought the studio.

Rod Cousens, chief executive of Codemasters commented:

In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment … We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen. It is good business for Codemasters, an exciting prospect and there will be more to come as we are not content to stand still.

This announcement certainly benefits both parties. Codemasters are well-known for racing titles including the Colin McRae series and Race Driver. Sega had a team proven at producing good racing games across multiple next-gen platforms. For the staff they hopefully all have jobs again and Codemasters now has the capacity to expand its racing games line-up.

Creative Zen Goes Pink

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Somehow, pink products seem to be constantly released even if women have already stated their preference that turning something pink won’t help them make up their mind on a purchase decision all the time, especially when the device is a turkey itself. Creative isn’t going to go against the grain with its Zen though, where a pink 2GB unit retails for $69.99 from Wal Mart. Strangely enough, the pink Zen isn’t even available from Creative’s own online store. This would go down well with your pink DS Lite, pink RAZR and pink ipod.

Do You Resell Your Gadgets?

Monday, April 28th, 2008

How long do you keep your gadgets before you buy a new one?

My old laptop which was a Toshiba lived for around 4 years with me. Now it’s only gathering dust in my attic. What a waste!

Lately, I’ve been thinking whether to sell my laptop when it turns a year old. For one thing, the resell value will be high. I only have to add a few more bucks and I get a laptop that’s brand new!

It’s either I sell my laptop or get the Apple Care which will extend my warranty for 3 years more. But after 3 years, I can only probably sell my laptop at half the price that I got it at. Or even less! Therefore, I have to add more if and when I want a new one.

And when I do sell my Mac Book Pro, I still intend to get another Mac Book Pro, hahaha. Some say I should get the Mac Air, but it just doesn’t fulfill my gaming needs :P

So how about you guys? Do you like reselling your gadgets or you let them stay with you until they become ancient and value-less?

CES 2008: Optimus Maximus Keyboard

Monday, April 28th, 2008

So much of what we see at CES is just vaporware. It doesn’t exist and it may never exist. In fact, after a healthy dose of CES, everything that IS available starts to look incredibly lame in comparison. The Optimus Maximus keyboard is a good example. Imagine a computer keyboard in which the keys can be WHATEVER you want. Instead of stickers on your keyboard (that would be MY solution), the Optimus Maximus keyboard has a tiny LED screen on each and every screen. You can change the keys based on your language or whatever other scheme you prefer.

When we saw Optimus Maximus at CES this year, we thought it looked cool, but both Mike and I assumed that it would never see the light of day. We had seen this keyboard before and nothing had come of it. We logged it as cool and didn’t report it back then because it just wasn’t available for purchase.

Well, now it is:

  • ThinkGeek :: Optimus Maximus Keyboard

Here is a video produced by ThinkGeek showing the abilities of the Optimus Maximus keyboard:

If you’re willing to plunk down over $1.5K, you can have a Optimus Maximus keyboard. Of course, the concept of “available” is a fuzzy one when even ThinkGeek doesn’t have them in stock.

Considering that sticker sheets are sold in packs of 25 for ten bucks, I think I’ll go for the sticker idea.

Motorola A810 reveals itself courtesy of the FCC

Monday, April 28th, 2008

We first saw some leaked images of the Motorola A810 show up back in early February, but at the time there were just a few scant details about the handset itself. Well now, thanks once again to the FCC we have some more images and also some more details on just what the A810 will be packing. Based on the details available, the latest smartphone from Motorola will be quite a bit more exciting than their uber-famous RAZR. The A810 will be a Linux based smartphone featuring a large touchscreen display with both an onscreen keyboard as well as handwriting recognition. Other features of the A810 include a stylus, 2-megapixel camera, microSD card slot, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack and an FM radio.

Sadly the one item that is not referred to in the FCC docs is the inclusion of the GSM 850MHz band support, which would be necessary for the smartphone to land here in the US. Currently the A810 is listed as offering support for the GSM 900/1800/1900MHz bands.

Typical with the FCC finds, there is not any mention or clue as to when the smartphone will be release, nor how much it will retail for. Keep reading for a few more images of the A810…

Epson announces their plain-jane Endeavor NA104 notebook

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Epson has announced a new notebook, the Endeavor NA104. Without much excitement the NA104 offers some pretty standard features as well as an overall basic look and design.

To begin with the NA104 offers a 12.1-inch display with either a 1.20GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor on the high-end or a 933MHz Celeron M523 processor on the low-end. Additional features include 512MB up to 1.5GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. The NA104 will offer a choice to come with either Windows XP or Vista installed. Like we mentioned, nothing special.

Screen Grabs: Lost’s Ben shoots Nikon

Monday, April 28th, 2008

by Ryan Block, posted Apr 27th 2008 at 7:26PM

Ben (aka Benjamin Linus), leader of the Others and all around creepy manipulator, doesn’t just shoot guns all the time — as we find out in a flashforward to 2005, he also apparently shoots Nikon as well. Now, there’s certainly nothing wrong with a D100, but Ben does kind of strike us as the calculating, discerning type that would probably prefer a full-frame Canon though, you know?
