The IdeaPad U110 from Lenovo is now officially available. The U110 pricing begins at $1,899 and comes in either black or red. Aside from the difference in color which is appropriately named either the U110 - Black or U110 - Red, both models will offer the same specs.

The IdeaPad U110 will come standard with a 1.60GHz Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 processor, 11.1-inch widescreen display, built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, 2GB of RAM, 120 GB hard drive, external dual-layer DVD burner, Wi-Fi, a 4-cell and 7-cell battery and will be running Windows Vista Home Premium.

In addition the U110 also has the standard variety or ports to include three USB, FireWire, VGA-out, Express Card slot, headphone jack, microphone jack and a 6-in-1 card reader.

Currently, although both are available for order, the black model is listing a 2-3 week timeframe before it will ship, while the red will be ready to ship in 3-5 business days.

IOGEAR intros Dual-Link DVI KVMP switch alongside two others

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 29th 2008 at 11:14PM

Eager to get busy with multiple workstations on a single monitor, are you? If so, IOGEAR’s providing three more ways to get you there, starting with the 2-port GCS1802 and 4-port GCS1804. The $199.95 / $299.95 KVMP (Keyboard, Video, Mouse, Peripheral) switches each enable USB 2.0 peripherals to be shared, and you’ll also find support for 2.1 audio. The real winner, however, is the 4-port GCS1204, which handles dual-link DVI with nary a grumble. Granted, that one will set you back a stiff $449.95, but at least it — along with those other two — is available right now.

Rumor: AT&T to Subsidize New 3-G iPhones

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Worried about how much that new iPhone will set you back this June? Well, according to Fortune, AT&T is hoping to ease such price-related concerns by offering a $200 rebate or subsidy for those who sign two-year contracts.

If our math is correct (and Apple keeps the same pricing scheme), that should bring the final price of the 3-G iPhone down to $200 and $300 for the expected 8- and 16-GB versions. Not bad if you can stomach a two-year commitment.

Unfortunately, the $200 subsidy will supposedly be limited to AT&T customers and won’t be available through any of Apple’s stores, which seems a bit odd to us. For those already in the midst of contracts, the rumored rebate scheme also doesn’t make much of a difference. Ultimately, Fortune’s masked insider says we can expect the device to go on sale sometime around the one-year anniversary of the original iPhone debut: June 27 or thereabouts. He or she also claims the new iPhone will be 2.5 mm thinner than the 11.7 mm original and will also come with a GPS chip, possibly to track all the bullshit rumors about the next iteration of the iphone.

British identify top 20 useless gadgets in new survey

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Usually here on Geek.com I try to highlight those quirky and useful gadgets that make life a little easier, if not at least a little more interesting. Today, however, we’ll be looking across the Atlantic at a new survey in which people from the United Kingdom voted to say which, in their opinion, are the most useless gadgets ever created.

The survey was conducted among 4,500 British people and was sponsored by consumer review website Reevo. Now while I agree with most of the items in the list, I have to respectfully disagree with number twenty. If you are by yourself and have an itch you just can’t reach, a back scratcher comes in awful handy.

Here is the British list of the twenty worst gadgets ever with American translation added where needed.

1. Electric nail files
2. Laser guided scissors
3. Electric candles
4. Soda stream (soft drink maker)
5. Foot spas
6. Fondue set
7. Hair crimpers
8. Egg boiler
9. Electric fluff remover (lint remover)
10. Electric carving knife
11. Trouser press (pant press)
12. Face steamers
13. Teas made (automatic tea maker)
14. Mini disk player
15. Facial tanners
16. Egg slicer
17. Electric tin openers (can opener)
18. Yogurt makers
19. Towel warmer
20. Back scratcher

Let’s hear from you readers to see if you agree with the Brit list and you can also post your list of worst gadgets of all time.

Manodo’s screen gives apartment dwellers the 411

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Those looking for another good reason to set up camp in Sweden have just found it. Okay, so maybe Manodo’s oh-so-informative display isn’t that astonishing, but it certainly gives a select few apartment residents in the country access to an enviable amount of information. Reportedly, the screen is being installed in several Swedish cities as part of a larger pilot project, and aside from dishing out details about the next available train, who exactly is standing outside their building and how much energy folks are currently consuming, it also serves up data on how many pounds of CO2 you’re responsible for releasing while kicking back in your pad. Unfortunately, we’re not sure if said solution is available en masse (or if it ever will be).

[Thanks, hl]

Psystar Video Shows Valiant Attempt At Copying A Mac

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Gizmodo reader Patrick sent in a video and photo gallery of the new Psystar Open Computer, pre-loaded with OS X Leopard. The video shows a feature that the original Apple hardware lacks: Hit the “on” button and the thing goes off like a leaf-blower. Nice touch. Also, check the guts of the machine (the Psystar box is on the left, in case you weren’t sure). Sure is pretty, huh?

Gemini P29 5-in-1 Wireless Keyboard

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The Gemini P29 5-in-1 Wireless Keyboard from Xenics Korea is certainly interesting, although our source has failed to pinpoint the exact five features found on this keyboard. What we do know about this compact wireless keyboard is it comes with a remote control that doubles up as a mouse and a laser pointer. You connect the Gemini P29 to your PC via the included USB dongle, offering up to a 10 meter radius which should be more than sufficient for you to perform all your computing tasks in front of a large screen HDTV.

Netgear offers up 6-bay ReadyNAS Pro

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 29th 2008 at 12:19AM

Four months is just too long to go without an all new ReadyNAS, so we suppose that’s why Netgear is kicking out an all new 6-bay unit (6TB RNDP6610; 3TB RNDP6310; 1.5TB RNDP6350) for those obsessed with storage. The box can handle up to 6TB of HDD space and features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM (up to 4GB supported), 128MB of embedded flash for the OS, a pair of gigabit Ethernet ports, three USB 2.0 sockets and support for RAID 0/1/5/6 and Auto-Expandable X-RAID2. As expected, Windows / Mac / Linux clients can all tap in, and the unit streams all sorts of media on the side. Of course, acquiring the industry’s first 6-bay small-form-factor NAS drive won’t come cheap, with the ReadyNAS Pro starting at around two large.
