Meizu M8 now on sale? Doubtful.

Given the sheer bulk of press Meizu’s M8 has received over the course of its young, controversial life, it’d seem likely that even the slightest trickle of units onto Chinese store shelves would lead to unboxing shots, videos, and reviews within hours, wouldn’t it? Reports are starting to flow across the ‘nets that M8s are now being made available through several of Meizu’s suppliers, but without a single in-the-wild picture of a fully functional, final spec unit — from Meizu, much less a paying customer — we’re not buying it. For one thing, there aren’t any “zomg I just picked up my m8!” posts on MeizuMe; secondly, MeizuMe’s Err0r says that his site will be the “first place” we read about a release (and frankly, we believe him); and third, after the trials and tribulations the handset has gone through on its long journey to retail, you’d think that we’d at least see it at a trade show before it hit the streets. So, anyone want to prove us wrong by posting shots of their M8?

Polaroid ceases instant film production

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

This was clearly inevitable with the rise of digital technology in the late 20th century. Polaroid is closing its instant film producing factories in Massachusetts, Mexico and the Netherlands some time next year. If you own a Polaroid, you’d better enjoy it while it lasts as you won’t be able to buy any more instant films.

Polaroid now focuses on generic consumer electronics such as digital cameras, printers and scanners as it tries to survive “for the next 30 to 40 years,” Tom Beaudoin, Polaroid’s president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer, said.

Flying Alarm Clock

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Do you hate getting up in the morning? The Geeks have found several products to help including the Loudest Alarm Clock Ever and the Neverlate Executive Alarm Clock… apparently waking up is an epidemic as yet another alarm clock has been discovered by the Geeks called the Flying Alarm Clock. This definitely is not your typical alarm clock as when the alarm goes off a rotor is launched and hovers up to 9′ in the air. The alarm does not stop until the rotor is returned to the alarm clock base.

This is a great gift for any stubborn sleeper out there.

Nokia 5310 XpressMusic Review - The Sydney Morning Herald

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

The Sydney Morning Herald reviews the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic and writes, “It’s one of the few phones to sport a standard 3.5-millimetre audio jack, giving you the freedom to use your own headphones such as noise-cancelling earbuds, and the only phone we know of with a bespoke audio processing chip to reproduce your music crisply and clearly. This also helps to keep the music playing smoothly while you carry out other tasks, such as sending text messages or using the two-megapixel camera.”

Pot Tickers - Timers for every pan

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

This is a simple but cool idea, Pot Tickers, a tiny timer that slots onto pan handles.

Pot-Tickers are a cooking timing dealy my Mom actually came up with because she would burn what she was cooking. A lot. They are handle holders which go on the skillet handle, potholders, and aprons all with digital timers attached. They solve the problem for those who don’t have any free disk space in the ol’ brain.p.u. and allow them to time everything they’re cooking (multiple items) at once and know exactly what’s done and when!

You can get further info and buy Pot Tickers from $8 over at Pot-Tickers.com.

Tokyoflash Shinshoku Watch

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Here’s another crazy watch from Tokyoflash. You probably won’t be able to read it, but you sure will look cool wearing it!

Shinshoku’s solid, continuous stainless steel band wraps comfortably around your wrist and features a matrix of punched out holes with twenty-nine super bright LEDs beneath the surface which illuminate to present the time.

There are two models available, clear strap with multi-colored LEDs and black strap with multi-colored LEDs.

A single touch of the upper button animates the LEDs which then cascade across the band presenting the time. Pressing the lower button skips this animation and presents the time immediately.

Twelve red LEDs indicate the hour, three green LEDs indicate 15, 30 and 45 minutes past the hour and fourteen yellow LEDs indicate single minutes.

This unique time telling method makes it easy to see the approximate time quickly, whether it’s quarter past, half past or quarter to the hour whilst also telling the precise time.

Subtle etched markings on the strap allow you to distinguish easily between hours and minutes, however, with multi-colored LEDs, this design is really easy to read, especially at night!

Wii + rehab = Wiihab, the cycle is now complete

It’s not the first we’ve heard of the Wii being used for rehabilitation context, but it would appear “Wiihab” is becoming increasingly frequent. According to the AP, hospitals in states like Missouri, Illinois, and North Carolina, and even Walter Reed Army Medical Center are all incorporating the Wii into physical therapy routines. Just in time, too, it would be really weird if Wiiitis or a nasty Wiinjury landed you in the hospital in the first place, your doctor used a Wii to hone his steady hand, and you didn’t actually get to use a Wii to get your ass well enough to be discharged. Ah, what a world.
